Another important way to manage your law firm, is you have to hire staff. I tell young lawyers when they get their first big settlement, reinvest it back in the law firm. You need to hire competent staff that’s managing your files, that’s on top of your case, that’s proactive. The only way you get a good result is to, I use the analogy, shake the money from the tree. No one’s gonna give you money. In fact, the insurance companies and these defendants, they’re designed not to give you money, they’re designed to give you very little money. It is their job to make sure you walk away with very little or nothing. And the only way you can counteract that and get results, you know financial results, that help your client and yourself, is through aggressively working up your cases. That means getting stuff done, getting it filed, getting it to trial, taking the key depositions, and the only way you can do that as one human being is if you hire competent staff. So it’s really critical that you staff your cases properly. If you don’t have the staff or the finances to handle your case, that’s okay bring in somebody else, do a joint venture, not only will you get 10, 20, 50 times more than what you would have gotten, you’ll get a good result for the client, but it’s also a learning opportunity for that attorney to work with someone that has the finances and has the experience to take the case and get the best result.
